Concrete Quantity Takeoff Estimator
Position Summary
The Concrete Quantity Takeoff Estimator (Scope-Only) is a specialized estimating role focused exclusively on performing accurate and timely quantity takeoffs for commercial concrete construction projects. This position does not include pricing, bid strategy, proposal preparation, subcontractor buyout, or client interaction.
This role is ideal for a detail-oriented concrete estimator who enjoys plan analysis, quantity accuracy, and supporting winning bids without sales pressure. The takeoff estimator plays a critical support role to senior estimators by delivering reliable quantities that drive accurate pricing, risk control, and margin protection.
Core Responsibilities (100% Takeoff Focus)
Quantity Takeoffs
· Perform detailed quantity takeoffs from construction documents for commercial concrete scopes, including:
o Footings (spread, continuous, pile caps)
o Foundations and concrete walls
o Slabs-on-grade and elevated slabs
o Structural concrete (columns, beams, suspended slabs)
o Site concrete (paving, curbs, sidewalks, ramps)
o Reinforcing steel (rebar quantities by size and weight)
o Formwork quantities
o Concrete-related embeds and accessories
· Review architectural, structural, and civil drawings to ensure complete scope coverage.
· Identify missing information, scope gaps, and plan conflicts impacting quantities.
Documentation & Organization
· Prepare clear, organized, and auditable takeoff files.
· Label quantities by drawing reference, concrete type, and phase or pour sequence as required.
· Follow company standards for takeoff templates and file organization.
· Deliver concise quantity summaries for handoff to senior/pricing estimators.
Quality Control
· Review and self-check all takeoffs for completeness and accuracy.
· Update quantities promptly when addenda or revised drawings are issued.
What This Role Does Not Do
· Perform pricing or cost estimating
· Participate in bid strategy or go/no-go decisions
· Write proposals or submit bids
· Contact clients, general contractors, or vendors
· Perform subcontractor buyout or negotiations

Product data submittals and documentation
o Submittals are assembled using the intake form/process (product cutsheets, spec sheets, compliance docs), route to the right person. This includes tracking what’s submitted, what’s pending, and what needs follow-up.
Required Skills & Experience
· 2+ years of experience performing concrete quantity takeoffs for commercial construction projects.
· Strong understanding of concrete construction methods and terminology.
· Proficiency with takeoff software such as PlanSwift, Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoff, or similar tools.

Why This Role Matters
This position allows senior estimators to focus on pricing strategy and risk management while ensuring every bid is supported by accurate quantities.
By separating quantity takeoff from pricing, the company improves estimating efficiency, bid accuracy, and long-term scalability.
This role is well-suited for estimators who prefer technical accuracy, plan analysis, and production-focused work over sales or client-facing responsibilities.
